“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” ― Aristotle

This week have have been learning about and practising the art style of pointillism. Georges Seurat created this art form. We used the Smart Board to view pieces of his art.

At the beginning of the week we used oil pastels and today we used paint.

We went out into the garden this morning and harvested our remaining radishes. Several of them had gone to seed. I decided that this was a perfect opportunity to do a science/art activity with the class. I also used the Smart Board to do an activity about a plant life cycle. I also showed them a couple of YouTube videos a about plants. The class particularly enjoyed the video showing the time lapsed growth of a radish.

5 Green & Speckled Frogs

For the past month we have been practising singing the song Five Green And Speckled Frogs. This afternoon the class cut out their own puppets and practised the song individually using the tub in the house center as the pond. They put their puppets in their backpack so you can ask for an encore presentation at home.

Project of the Heart

At the beginning of the week our school had a special guest, a First Nations elder who attended residential school.  She spoke about her experience.  Ms. McKnight read the  class some books that show First Nation culture.  Our entire school is participating in decorating tiles as part of a special project:

Ms. McKnight took some photos of our kids decorating their tiles.20130605_115004 20130605_140216

More Writing

Last week we created bug poems. I provided a frame and students needed to add nouns and adjectives. (We did a lot of brainstorming to generate ideas.)
The work is displayed on our classroom walls.

Non Fiction Writing

Today we created an information quilt about insects.

Welcome to K Digital Book

I created a digital book for the new Kinders and their families. I posted it on the blog that I set up for next year: I showed the book today, via the Smart Board, to our kids. They were happy to see photos they recognized (and you might too).

You are probably wondering why your child came home today embellished in a kaleidoscope of colours . . . It’s because we finally did our Jackson Pollock painting.
