More Books

The past week I have been doing several read-a-louds of simple non-fiction texts.  I’ve told the class that fiction is another word for make believe while non-fiction refers to facts. Prior to reading a text I point out to the class whether it is fiction or non-fiction. Today I showed the class a video that demonstrates the attributes of non-fiction text. By the end of Kindergarten I will expect students to discern whether a text is fiction or non-fiction.

Division 10 has a wonderful addition to their desks: a cheery froggy book bag.  Alexis, a mom from our partner school, Maple Grove, sewed these up for us. These bags are kept in the students’ desks and are not to be taken home. In it you’ll find simple class booklets (e.g. the ABC Rap), books at your child’s just right reading level, and a notebook filled with the songs and poems we have been learning.  You are welcome to come into the classroom any day after school and have your child read to you from the bag.  A big thank you to Alexis!
