“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” ― Aristotle

Brain & Body

on October 12, 2012

Yes, it is true. We have a skeleton and brains in the classroom. They are on loan for a week.

We watched a couple of videos today. Dem Bones had the kids tapping their toes and singing along. We also watched a DVD of the five senses.

Using the science models I showed the class three important parts of the brain: the prefrontal cortex, the amygdala
, and the hippocampus.

I showed the class a mind jar. The first photo represents a calm mind.

The second photo represents an agitated mind where our amygdala is riled up.

I told the class that activities like mindful breathing help calm the amygdala and prevent us from flipping our lid.
